Traditionally, saunas have been built from Cedar, not only is it esthetically appealing, but it is resistant to bacteria, mold and fungus. Because Cedar is a durable, lightweight and stable wood that lies flat and stays straight, it resists cracking better than that of denser wood. Western Red Cedar will not bend or sag over time, and therefore will retain its original shape longer than that of other woods. It is also important that a sauna be built from a wood that will stay cool to the touch allowing you to enjoy your sauna in comfort. The end result is a sauna that will remain beautiful and strong for years to come.
HealthPal Saunas are constructed of Canadian Western Red Cedar, using only the heart- wood from where terpine content is low. Also, the wood has been kiln dried to around 8% moisture content to ensure against shrinkage, sanded very finely, and the residue of any sawdust removed. Only the stability, beauty, longevity, and subtle soothing aroma remain.
*Fact: Cedar was famously used in constructing King Solomon's temple in Jerusalem.
